Ten years we were living next to wetlands. Water and the marsh plants formed their own mystic ecosystem like a jungle that enriched the environment and would certainly affect the soil moisture balance like a mire. Then the surrounding forest was fully cut. The wetland lost, will it ever come back? / Asuimme kymmenen vuotta kosteikon vieressä. Vesi ja kosteikkokasvit muodostivat oman mystisen viidakkomaisen ekosysteeminsä, joka rikastutti ympäristöä ja vaikutti varmasti soiden tapaan maaperän kosteustasapainoon. Sitten tehtiin ympäröivän metsän paljaaksihakkuu. Kosteikko hävisi, tuleekohan se koskaan takaisin?

They are forest owners and farmers, who think only how to get money of something. Now the party of farmers and forest owners is in our government and wants to privatize roads, health care and perhaps all the land. Money talks. I think totally differently. But what can I do? Only vote.

Wetlands represent such a fragile, yet valuable ecosystem. It’s tragic and small-minded to destroy it 😦

I red that our generation has already destroyed 30% of biodiversity (since 1970). The tropical zone of up to 60% from 1970 to 2008 (WWF). Yes it’s tragic.
